Wilderland was born in 1964 and is one of New Zealand's first self-reliant communities. It was made a charitable trust in 1992 and is now a thriving, communally managed education centre catering to hundreds of visitors every year.
To learn at Wilderland is to be involved in all aspects of community living including organic farming, land stewardship, social activities, decision-making and more. Learning is experiential and participatory, based on skill sharing, and everyone at Wilderland is both a student and a teacher..

Visit : Start as a volunteer and find your fit! Offerings at Wilderland explicitly depend on who is currently engaged in our daily practices.
This presents an amazing opportunity to experience, teach, learn and develop skills in organic horticulture, land stewardship, community development, cooperative organisation and local economy, as well as a wide array of trades and crafts. You’ll gain an appreciation for what’s possible, and leave with a vision of how we can improve our lives, society and culture. It is a way of making a personal contribution towards a sustainable future.

Workshops : Our workshop selection is dependent upon who is currently engaged in our daily operations. Most of our workshop events are ad-hoc; if we have upcoming workshops to promote, we will list them here or check out our Facebook Page to stay engaged to our upcoming events.
