Ake Ake Shrouds is Aotearoa's first artisan made funeral shroud maker, owned and run by Karen Williamson, an ex Hospice nurse and natural dyer. Her kaupapa is grounded in a belief that conscious dying is an extension of conscious living. Karen works from her home studio in the Kaipara, using sustainable practices to create botanically dyed funeral shrouds. She is an advocate for natural burials and for whānau to have sovereignty at end of life, and in funeral planning.
